Advantages of Meta Tags

  • Each page may have an SEO benefit with those search engines if it has a meta description tag.
  • Some search engines include it in the search results, especially if it contains the keyword searched for (Peach,2008).

Disadvantage of Meta Tags

  • Sometimes snippets are better at supplying exactly what searchers are searching for than page summaries, especially if the page has a lot of content.
  • Working on meta description tags takes time away from the more crucial task of creating the page's actual content (Peach,2008).

Some ways to overcome 

  • Include keywords- When a keyword exactly matches a user's search term, it is bolded. This may improve website click-through rates. Incorporate keywords in a style that sounds natural and organic and mimics how people actually speak. Unnaturally cramming in keywords can come seen as spammy and unreliable.
  • Keep it between 150 to 165 characters- By keeping the description under a certain length, you may assure that users can read the entire thing.
  • Have a call-to-action- A call-to-action, such as "Click here to learn more," gives users a next step and encourages them to visit your website.
  • Stay on brand- To guarantee a seamless user experience, you want your meta description to have the same brand language as your website.
  • Use active voice- To make your description succinct and simple for the customer to comprehend at a glance, utilize active voice.
  • Convey value- Make it apparent to visitors why they should use your website and what benefits they can anticipate (workshopdigital.com, 2020).
