Invention of WWW and E-commerce

Invention of WWW

In 1989, British scientist Tim Berners-Lee was working at CERN when he created the World Wide Web (WWW). The original purpose of the Web's conception and creation was to satisfy the desire for automated information-sharing amongst scientists in universities and research facilities around the globe (home.cern, A short history of the web).

Invention of E-commerce

The concept of online purchasing was created by businessman Michael Aldrich in the United Kingdom in 1979. Aldrich was able to use a telephone connection to link a customised home television to a real-time multi-user transaction processing computer. In 1980, the system was promoted and made available as a business-to-business system. It was later sold in the UK, Ireland, and Spain (Miva, The history of ecommerce: How did it all begin?).
